Former Sekhukhune United footballer Mokete Sean “Shaune” Mogaila, 29, has pleaded guilty to culpable homicide and failing to remain at the scene or provide assistance after a fatal crash in Tembisa.
Mogaila appeared before the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 5 October 2026, where he admitted responsibility for his role in the collision that claimed the life of nine-year-old Gomolemo Mavimbela.
The crash happened on Andrew Mapheto Drive on 30 October 2024. Gomolemo died in the collision, while her mother, Keo Mavimbela, and a 13-year-old neighbour were injured.
Mogaila admitted that he acted negligently and caused or contributed to the crash. He also acknowledged that he left the scene without remaining behind to assist those affected.
He later handed himself over to the police and was granted bail of R20,000.
An earlier plea-and-sentence agreement, which reportedly included a fine of approximately R20,000, was rejected by the victims’ families and the National Prosecuting Authority.
The matter has now been postponed to 17 November 2026 for sentencing. Mogaila’s bail has been extended.
The court will also consider victim impact statements before determining the appropriate sentence.
