Former Arise South Africa leader Mpho Dagada has sparked concern after going silent following a series of social media posts in which he claimed that his life was in danger.
Dagada raised the alarm on Thursday, saying he believed he was being followed and targeted. He claimed that he had been followed to OR Tambo International Airport and alleged that individuals wanted to kill him.
In one of his posts, Dagada appealed to his followers to share and screenshot his messages, saying he was not safe.
The situation escalated later in the evening when Dagada told his followers that if he failed to go live, they should assume that he had been killed.
Dagada did not subsequently appear in the promised live broadcast, according to reports published on Friday morning.
His earlier posts also contained allegations involving financial transactions and alleged money laundering through a political party account. Dagada made claims involving billions of dollars, but these allegations have not been independently verified.
Dagada also claimed that his electronic devices had been compromised and that social media content was being deleted.
He said Sandton police had intervened after he allegedly realised that he was being followed.
However, there is currently no confirmed information that Dagada has been killed, kidnapped or physically harmed.
His claims about being followed and allegedly targeted also remain allegations, with no independent confirmation publicly available at the time of publication.
Dagada is known for his work as an entrepreneur, author and technology commentator. He rose to prominence as “Mr Bitcoin” after documenting his cryptocurrency journey and later entered politics as the leader of Arise South Africa. He also previously served as a Commissioner for the Fourth Industrial Revolution at the Presidency. (Mpho Dagada)
