A South African gaming content creator and founder, BigJoe, is turning his passion for gaming into a growing digital media platform, attracting thousands of followers and millions of views from audiences both locally and internationally.
Based in Durban, BigJoe says his journey began with posting gaming clips before gradually expanding his content into educational videos, tutorials, entertainment and commentary.
His approach goes beyond traditional gameplay. According to BigJoe, his content is focused on helping players better understand games, discover features they may have missed and stay informed about the gaming world.
6.5 million TikTok views in 60 days

BigJoe’s recent TikTok performance highlights the growing reach of gaming content produced in South Africa.
Over a 60-day period, his content generated:
- 6.5 million views
- 44,500 profile views
- Approximately 13,600 net new followers
He now has more than 16,700 TikTok followers, according to statistics shared with Vision6000 News.
The figures also point to the potential for South African creators to reach audiences well beyond the country’s borders through social media platforms.

International audience
Despite being based in South Africa, BigJoe says only around 24% of his audience is South African.
His viewers are spread across countries including Fiji, the Philippines, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea and the United States, among others.
The international reach reflects the increasingly borderless nature of the creator economy, particularly in gaming, where audiences can connect around games and communities regardless of where creators are based.
South African gaming creators entering the global conversation
BigJoe believes his experience could form part of a wider conversation about the growth of South African gaming creators and the opportunities presented by social media.
Gaming has increasingly developed beyond simply recording gameplay. Creators are building communities around tutorials, commentary, entertainment, reviews and educational content, while platforms such as TikTok provide opportunities to reach audiences outside their home markets.
For South African creators, this creates the possibility of building international audiences without necessarily relocating from the country.
BigJoe says his goal is to continue developing content that educates, entertains and informs gamers while growing the community around his brand.
His journey also highlights a broader shift in South Africa’s digital economy, where individual creators are increasingly using social platforms to develop audiences, personal brands and potentially sustainable media businesses.
Vision6000 News will continue covering the growth of South Africa’s creator economy, gaming industry and the digital entrepreneurs building audiences beyond the country’s borders.
