Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has issued a public apology after leaked private video recordings sparked widespread public reaction.
In a statement released by the Office of the King, the monarch expressed sincere remorse for remarks made during what was described as a private and emotionally charged family conversation. The Royal Household said the recordings were shared without the King’s knowledge or consent and do not reflect the current state of affairs within the Royal Household.
King Misuzulu acknowledged that some of his comments fell short of the dignity and restraint expected of a monarch and apologised to those who were hurt, including members of the Royal Family, amakhosi, the Royal Household, religious leaders, and the broader Zulu Nation.
The statement also noted that the King and Queen Nomzamo Myeni have continued carrying out official engagements together, describing this as a reflection of ongoing reconciliation and their shared commitment to serving the Zulu Nation. It further confirmed that a delegation of senior Royal House elders has been appointed to convey the King’s apology to the leadership of the Nazareth Baptist Church (Shembe).
The Royal Household appealed to the public and the media to respect the family’s privacy and refrain from circulating further private recordings while efforts to promote healing, reconciliation, and unity continue.
