Johannesburg — 30 September 2026
Ndodana Tshuma is back in court today as proceedings continue following his arrest in South Africa after allegedly fleeing the United Kingdom in connection with the deaths of his wife and two children.
Tshuma, a Zimbabwean-born man who had been living in the UK, is accused of killing his wife and their two children before fleeing the country and eventually making his way to South Africa.
His arrest followed an extensive police manhunt after authorities traced him to South Africa. He was subsequently apprehended in Johannesburg, where police also recovered a firearm allegedly found in his possession.
Tshuma is facing charges in South Africa relating to the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, while authorities continue with the legal process surrounding his possible extradition to the UK, where he is wanted in connection with the deaths of his family members.
The case has attracted significant public attention, with Tshuma’s appearances in court closely followed by members of the public and social-media users.
One detail that has repeatedly sparked discussion is his noticeably red or bloodshot eyes whenever he appears in court.
Social-media users have questioned why his eyes appear consistently irritated, with some jokingly suggesting that he could be deliberately causing the redness to gain public sympathy.
There is currently no evidence that Tshuma is deliberately irritating his eyes or using any substance to make them appear red, and the speculation should therefore be treated as just that.
His courtroom appearances continue to generate strong reactions online as the legal proceedings surrounding the case move forward.
Tshuma remains presumed innocent of the allegations against him until proven guilty in a court of law.
