Claudette Masethe told the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court that she has no job and is studying law. She said her boyfriend pays her R60,000 a month, which she uses for living costs and her studies. The remark was made during her bail hearing.
She and two co-accused face allegations of R1.2 million fraud tied to the lease of a luxury property. Each of the three was granted R20,000 bail and may remain free while the case continues, provided they meet the court’s conditions.
The main accused, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, was not released and is still in custody. His bail application is expected in October.
Masethe told the court: “I don’t have a job, but my boyfriend gives me R60,000 every month, and I use that money to live and study.” She was allowed to go home on bail while the investigation continues. These are allegations only; the accused have not been convicted.
