A social media appeal by Mandisi Tshingana has helped raise more than R40,000 for a Cape Town family struggling to cover funeral expenses.
The appeal centred on Lutho Mgaliphi, from Samora in Cape Town, who reportedly sought financial assistance after selling furniture to help raise money for his brother’s funeral.

Tshingana called on members of the public to support the family, with the initial target reportedly set at R38,000. Part of the amount was also intended to help Lutho replace furniture that had been sold to contribute towards the funeral costs.
The appeal quickly gained traction on social media, with supporters coming together to contribute towards the cause.
According to the post shared by Mikhulu Productions, the fundraising effort eventually surpassed R40,000, with the money sent to Lutho.

Lutho, who is also referred to as Hailey and is based in Khayelitsha, expressed gratitude to Tshingana and everyone who contributed to the fundraising effort.
The story has once again highlighted the ability of social media communities to mobilise support for people facing financial difficulties during times of loss.

Tshingana also thanked those who contributed, describing the response as an example of the power of social media to bring people together and assist those in need.
